What is the Thoracic Spine?

We always hear about lower back pain, but middle back pain is rarely mentioned, known to the professionals as thoracic back pain. The thoracic area is the part of the spine that starts just below your cervical spine (neck) and connects with your lumbar spine (lower back.) It is a very large section of vertebrae, discs, ligaments, nerves, and tissue that can sustain injury or ailment.

Managing the Middle Back Pain

While most cases of thoracic back pain may resolve within a few weeks, the prognosis of thoracic back pain greatly depends on the underlying cause and specific circumstances of your case, as well as, the method of treatment used.

Relief Procedures

Electrical Muscle Stimulator -- Electrical Muscle Stimulation (STIM) is the standard treatment for patients suffering from chronic pain in their back, neck or limbs. It can be used as a rehabilitation and preventive tool.

Ultrasound Therapy -- Ultrasound waves are sent to the affected area in order to treat pain conditions and to promote tissue healing.

Laser Therapy -- During this procedure, different wavelengths and outputs of low-level light are applied directly to a targeted area. The body tissue then absorbs the light. The red and near-infrared light cause a reaction, and the damaged cells respond with a physiological reaction that promotes regeneration and reduces inflammation.

Hot/Cold Treatments -- Our hot and cold packs are used to help both relax the muscles in the area being treated, as well as reduce inflammation.

Sound Assisted Soft Tissue Mobilization --  S.A.S.T.M. is an effective technique that uses instruments to effectively break down fascial restrictions and scar tissue. The ergonomic design of these instruments provides the clinician with the ability to locate restrictions through sound waves, similar to a stethoscope, and allows the clinician to treat the affected area with the appropriate amount of pressure, due to square surface concept.

Massages -- Our Licenced Massage Therapists provide therapeutic deep tissue massages to help reduce pain and muscle stiffness.

Acupuncture -- Acupuncture works by improving the body’s functions in order to promote the natural self-healing process. This is done by stimulating specific anatomic sites, commonly referred to as acupuncture points. The most common method used to stimulate these points is the insertion of fine, sterile, needles into the skin. Pressure, heat, or electrical stimulation may also be used to further enhance the effects.
